Hunter Douglas Australia approached Action to drag their 1800m2 office premises in Rydalmere out of the 1950’s and into the 21st century!
The brief called for a community feel which we implemented by creating destination where incidental contact could occur such open breakout areas, informal meeting spaces and touch-down areas. The deletion of ‘box offices’ encourages staff to travel around the building to a variety of human setting to have privacy. The factory staff is linked to the rest of the team not only by doors but also by full height glass windows and small meeting rooms.
The two floors of 120 degree workstations were designed on the principle of providing absolute flexibility through a free flowing layout. The light-weight workstations have been set back from the perimeter so that ‘no-one owns a window’ and everyone is a citizen of the building. This allows all to share natural light and enjoy the view of the external garden from the informal lounging areas by the windows.
The new image of Hunter Douglas office premises in Rydalmere was based on a total re-think about the way staff interacts with each other.
